Gusto Farm to Street, a Maryland based, multi-unit fast casual restaurant specializing in healthy, customizable farm fresh salads and fast fired pizzas has announced the addition of a new Chief Operating Officer along with several new corporate team members. Gusto has solidified its management and corporate infrastructure to support aggressive expansion.
Gusto Founder and CEO, Joshua Grim, has appointed Stephen Smittle as Gusto’s new Chief Operating Officer. Smittle joins Gusto with over 25 years of restaurant experience with multiple concepts, most recently as COO of PAUL USA, a division of PAUL International’s 650 unit brand. Smittle states that he is “excited to be a part of this growing team and concept. With continued support from Josh, I know that we will be able to bring Gusto’s bold flavors to streets across the United States. We look forward to continued innovation of healthy products, like our award-winning cauliflower crust pizza.” Smittle’s well rounded background with fast casual and full-service restaurants, specializing in emerging brands and new store openings, brings a seasoned perspective to the growth and development of Gusto Farm to Street. Smittle joins Ben Protheroe, current Director of Operations. Protheroe joined Gusto in 2016 from the CAVA and Piada brands.
In addition, Nichole Latiolais was hired as Gusto’s Senior Director of Marketing, holding over 20 years of restaurant, sales building, events, and marketing experience. Latiolais came to Gusto after building and expanding markets for Outback Steakhouse, McAllister’s Deli, and Le Pain Quotidien.
Scott Pavlica is the most recent addition to the corporate team, coming on board as the Director of Finance. His past experiences include Darden Restaurants, Outback Steakhouse and most recently Tangled Roots Brewing Company. Scott brings a robust knowledge of store level operations finance, corporate structure and supply chain management.
As Gusto prepares to open multiple new locations, Grim notes, “We are setting ourselves up for success, by not only establishing a strong financial backing, but also adding a team of experienced restaurant professionals to our already successful Gusto family.” Gusto currently has three locations in Montgomery County, and is opening four additional locations in Virginia and North Carolina throughout 2018.
